Dan Whelan

Dan is a highly experienced Chartered Building Surveyor at Fairhurst Buckley, specialising in commercial, retail, and industrial property. While his primary focus is on commercial building surveying, his qualifications and breadth of experience enable him to deliver the full range of general building surveying services. As an Associate Director, Dan plays a key role in supporting the continued growth and development of the Building Consultancy team.

Dan holds a BSc (Hons) in Building Surveying from the University of Salford and is a Chartered Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS). He is also a qualified Retrofit Coordinator and holds a Level 3 Certificate in Domestic Energy Assessment. His core expertise lies in commercial building surveying, with particular strengths in acquisitions, dilapidations, and project management.

Outside of work, Dan’s time is centred around family and sport. In 2025, he welcomed his son Marcus, and he is currently embracing the busy life of a family of four, alongside their beagle, Bernie. A lifelong football fan, Dan follows Manchester United closely and, while trips to Old Trafford are now less frequent, he never misses a match from home.

Although not a prolific reader, Ant Middleton’s autobiography inspired Dan to test his resilience and sense of adventure. In 2022, he temporarily gave up his seat at Old Trafford, packed a very large backpack (including a supply of his favourite Picnic bars), and took a six-month sabbatical to travel. His journey took him through Thailand, Vietnam, Bali, Australia, and New Zealand, with highlights including skydiving in Abel Tasman National Park and completing the three-day Ha Giang Loop motorcycle journey through the mountains of northern Vietnam.
